About The Film
In Toni's Footsteps was born in an attic in guernsey. Director Jonathan Hickman found a notebook containing messages and doodles from a young German soldier named Toni Kumpel in a box at his grandfather's house.
With Toni identified from his writing, Carl Timms and Jon set out to find out what happened to Toni and through his tale tell the larger story of the Occupation of the Channel Islands.
Funded through private investment and filmed in the summer of 2001, In Toni's Footsteps is a 52min document of the events of the Occupation, the characters who lived through it and the impact that time had on all who experienced this different chapter of World War 2 history.
In 2017, the film was acquired by Dark Matter Films with the intent on putting out a digital downloadable version of the film for the first time.
